The internet resources directory in EconBiz is a subject gateway. The resources have been selected individually according to their importance in specific subject areas and with regard to their quality. They are arranged to allow browsing or searching in the resources. Together with the co-operative partners, EconBiz is continually expanding the subject gateway in economics. Among other resources, websites from institutions, publications and bibliographical sources are included in this single database. The descriptions of the resources are created by librarians and subject area specialists of libraries. References to internet resources are entered in "LinkShare System", the database of the network "Academic LinkShare" which is shared e.g. with the Virtual Library of Political Science (ViFaPol) and the Virtual Library of Law (ViFaRecht). The internet resources are catalogued according to the rules of the Dublin Core Metadata Scheme and monitored according to their relevance to the subject in either one or several co-operating virtual libraries. The internet resources in the subject gateway of EconBiz have descriptions in German and/or English and come from all countries of the World. The number of internet resources in the subject gateway has increased since the project began. However the quality of the sources is more important than the quantity. Each source is chosen according to certain quality criteria and must fit in a collection profile for EconBiz. A link checker tests the accessibility of the resource addresses daily. Additionally a review of the contents of the resources is done regularly to insure the quality of the directory. A search in the subject gateway uses the descriptions of the internet resources and not the actual contents. It is also possible to browse the systematics-lists of the subject gateway.
