Ethics, Justice and Women's Health

Physicians both collectively and individually need not be passive in the face of demonstrable evidence of social injustices that cost women their lives, in high proportions and for causes that could be cost-effectively prevented or remedied. Ethical arguments and legal means can be mobilized to advance the goals of reproductive health in particular and women's health in general, on which the health and survival of their younger children critically depend. Physicians and their professional organizations discharge a macroethical duty to patients by employing these ethical arguments and legal means to promote patients' survival and health
