1966/67 - Anatomie einer Rezession
Die Jahre 1966 und 1967 markieren aus mehreren Gründen einen tiefen Einschnitt in der Wirtschaftsgeschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Das Land des Wirtschaftswunders erlebte nach dem erfolgreichen Wiederaufbau und mitten in der Dekade der Überbeschäftigung seine erste Rezession. Nie zuvor waren Beschäftigung und Produktion effektiv geschrumpft: Frühere Phasen der Konjunkturabschwächung waren lediglich durch niedrigere Zuwachsraten gekennzeichnet. Auch auf der politischen Szene kam es zu einer Premiere: Erstmals in der Nachkriegszeit übernahmen die Sozialdemokraten nach der Regierungskrise Ende 1966 Regierungsverantwortung in der Großen Koalition. Ob die Rezession Auslöser für den Regierungswechsel war, ist strittig; zumindest aber verschärfte sie die bereits bestehenden Probleme der Regierung Erhard . Mit dem Rücktritt des Bundeskanzlers Ludwig Erhard, der als Wirtschaftsminister von 1949 bis 1963 maßgeblich an Einführung und Erfolg der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft beteiligt war, ging eine Ära endgültig zu Ende. Mit dem Einzug Karl Schillers ins Wirtschaftsministerium begann eine neue: Die Globalsteuerung kam zu Regierungsweihen.
