A Novel Anammox Start-Up and Operation Strategy : Negative Pressure Coupled with Low-Intensity Direct Current Field

Anammox is one of the most promising denitrification processes, but the slow growth rate of AnAOB limits its application. This paper focused on the start-up time, influent fluctuation, specific activity, and enzyme activity of AnAOB under the strategy of negative pressure coupled with direct current field. The results show that the NRR was stable at 88.6% after seven days, the relative abundance of Candidatus_Kuenenia increased from 52.0% to 57.6% by the novel operation strategy. In the face of transient and long-term influent fluctuation, the system had more robust resistance to shock load, and the specific activity of AnAOB to ammonia was stable at 4.1 mgN/gVss∙h. In addition, the specific activities of HDH and HZS under the novel operation strategy were much higher than those under normal operating conditions.
