The idea of Global Sourcing is surely one of the most popular concepts inthe field of supply management. Unfortunately, many applications ofGlobal Sourcing are limited to a rather operational view focusing on theidentification and utilization of foreign suppliers and thus ignore the potentialbenefits of a more strategic and integrated approach (Samli/Browning/Busbia, 1998). While there is a trend of using purchasing forstrategic reasons as companies have to deal with intensifying global competition(Swamidass/Kotabe, 1993) and the need to address the strategicperspective of Global Sourcing has been identified a long time ago (Arnold,1989), academic discussion has failed to deliver satisfying resultsconcerning its implementation (Trent/Monczka, 2003)...
