The authors present a time-series policy review of socialist China's spatial strategies over the past four decades with a focus on most recent changes. They examine what has been done and what has happened in terms of regional strategies and policy in national development, what purposes those actions served in regional development during both Mao era (1949-1978) and Deng's reform period (since 1978) among other topics.
