A Study of Employee Turnover in a Leading Telecom Organization in the State of Karnataka

In the current knowledge economy, the most prized possession of an organization is its intellectual resources- its employees. Organizations have hence shifted their primary focus from its capital assets to its human capital. Also with a huge shortage of highly trained work force, recruitment is a big challenge as also retention. The prominence being given to quality of workforce-recruiting, nurturing and retaining the employees in an organization- the world over further demonstrates that this issue has emerged as the single most important differentiator between the leaders and the followers in the marketplace. In the best of worlds, employees would love their jobs, like their coworkers, work hard for their employers, get paid well for their work, have ample chances for advancement, and flexible schedules so they could attend to personal or family needs when necessary. However in the real world employees leave organizations for a myriad of reasons. The reasons range from monetary to personal ambitions and in some cases organizational culture.This study stems from the need to identify the significant contributory factors for employee turnover in an organization. The purpose of this study is to understand the cause and effect relationship between the various organizational, process and personal factors that lead to employee turnover.
