Adapting Lesson Study for Teachers in the United States
Lesson Study is a model of professional development often used by Japanese teachers to examine instructional practice. This process is increasingly being touted in the United States as a powerful tool to help teachers examine and reflect on their own instructional practices and make adjustments resulting in improved lessons and, eventually, enhanced student achievement. This paper will present steps used to adapt Lesson Study for teachers in a rural educational community. This paper was presented at the 16th International Conference of the International Trade and Finance Association in Lodz, Poland, May 10-13, 2006.
