Adopting the Architecture of Life to Design Virtuous Organisations for Ethical Managers

A motivation for the paper is to reveal the "calculative silences" of scholars who limit their research and teaching to organisations that are centralised command and control hierarchies favoured by dictators. Centralisation introduces systemic unethical and dysfunctional relationships from the asymmetries of power and information between stakeholders. These problems can be avoided and/or ethically managed by introducing a division of powers that is described by Ostrom as “Polycentric governance”. A self-funding tax incentive is identified for shareholders to introduce a process for stakeholders to replace them as shareholders on a cyclic basis to introduce an ecological form of polycentricism. Shareholder primacy is maintained for stakeholders with firms becoming human scale and locally owned and control to allow stakeholders to protect their environment while reducing inequalities in wealth and Income. A process is created for the US Business Round Table, to achieve its stated purpose to benefit all stakeholders while improving firm competitive and resiliency. Ecological firms become agents acting locally to protect the environment globally to counter degradations of the atmosphere, oceans, soils and bio-diversity, while enriching democracy with multiple stakeholder voices able to express concerns about climate change and the wellbeing of themselves, their firm and the planet
