Following years of job cuts in the civil service recent statistical data point to a turnaround in parallel with the improved budgetary position. However, there is still a substantial need to raise employment over the coming years. According to this study there is currently a staff deficit of at least 110,000 fulltime jobs in the civil service. The understaffing is largest in childcare and tax administration, but the police and public schools also need significantly more fulltime jobs. In the medium term additional spending would amount to six billion euros per year.
