Archival methods

This chapter looks at the use of archival methods in employment relations (ER) research. Archival data are widely used in ER research, and the chapter explores their nature and some of the main reasons for use in this field. It offers practical guidance on the use of archives for the ER researcher and draws upon examples from the research field to illustrate how archival data can provide insights into ER. The chapter includes a vignette from the author’s own research, looking the use of archival methods to look at “old” and “new” actors in ER.
