Assessment of the second Flood Hazard and Risk Maps under the Floods Directive : Slovenia

The Floods Directive (FD) established a framework for flood risk management. It foresees 6-yearly cycles aiming at the reduction of the adverse consequences associated with floods in the European Union (EU). The first cycle covered the period 2010-15. The second cycle covers the period 2016-21. The Directive requires each Member State to scan its territory for risks from flooding to human health, the environment, cultural heritage and economic activity, identify the significant risks, map the flood extent and the potential adverse consequences, and plan measures to reduce the flood risk. Specifically, Article 6 of the FD requires Member States to prepare flood hazard maps and flood risk maps: flood hazard maps should cover the geographical area which could be flooded under different probabilities, along with some hazard related information associated to those areas; flood risk maps should show the potential adverse consequences associated with floods under these probabilities. On this basis, Member States were to review, and if necessary, update their Flood Hazard and Risk Maps (FHRMs) by December 2019. Reporting of the FHRMs to the European Commission should have taken place by March 2020. Slovenia made its FHRM reporting submission in EIONET in February 2021. The tables in this assessment study have been generated from the data and information provided by Slovenia. The electronic reporting format allows for Member States to select from pre-defined options contained in lists. The Member States select the options that correspond to their respective situations when reporting to the Commission. In addition to the selection of options, the Member States also provided files with, and internet links to, further information and these files and information, to the extent relevant, have also been evaluated as part of the assessment.
