Baseline study on the training and certification requirements for fishers in EU Member States : final report; Annex B: Member State overview Cyprus

The Cypriot fleet is dominated by small-scale vessels, which represent about 95% of the total fleet in number of vessels and employment. There are no training requirements for fishers in Cyprus. Various Development Agencies (Development Agency of Lemesos, Development Agency of Paphos, etc.) have provided non-mandatory training for employees in the fishing industry about environmental issues as well as health and safety issues as part of the LEADER for Fisheries Programme 2014-2020. A wide range of recognised STCW-based training courses are available in Cyprus, Greece and elsewhere for a wide range of seafarer functions, but not for fishers.
