Baseline study on the training and certification requirements for fishers in EU Member States : final report; Annex B: Member State overview Lithuania

Lithuania's fleet consists of small-scale coastal, large-scale, and distant-water segments, employing 465 fishers. Challenges include declining fish stocks and economic pressures. Fishers are required to complete approved training programmes that, depending on the function, comply with STCW and/or STCW-F, and require a Certificate of Competency to be allowed to work in the fishing sector. The requisite training is provided by the Lithuanian Maritime Academy. Certification is mandatory for roles as fishing vessel deck officers, requiring approved training, sea experience, and successful completion of competency exams.
