Benchmarking Regional Performance in the Information Society:Turning It into Practice
The paper deals with these questions based on research undertaken in the context of mainly twoprojects: BISER1, a recently finished research project supported by the European Commission’s ISTProgramme which developed and piloted indicators for measuring Information Societydevelopments at the regional level; and UNDERSTAND2, an ongoing project started in the beginning of 2004 with the support of the ECInterreg programme and involving 10 European regions. UNDERSTAND builds on the results ofprevious benchmarking projects to create a good quality, consistent and widely agreedmethodology, which could and should be used also by other non partner regions to benchmark onInformation society.
