REPORT OP THE UNIVERSITY OP NEVADA 129Ore-testing experiments on manganese-silver ore.Treatment of manganese-silver ore from San Fernando Claims, Patagonia, Arizona.War Minerals Report: Argentiferous Manganese Ore, Salvador Jline, Patagonia, Arizona. The Precious Metals Section developed general methods of ore treat¬ ment applicable to given districts and classes of ores, and has standard¬ ized some methods of ore testing and analysis. Representative ore samples from various mining districts of most of the mining States are tested under projects for the benefit of operators in each respective district.Under a Congressional Act authorizing study of strategic minerals of which the United States lacks an adequate supply, the Reno staff has been increased to handle samples and analyses from various projects. A domestic supply that is available in case of emergency including the necessary metallurgical processing to make a desirable grade is being sought for the following ores: Chromium, manganese, mercury, tung¬ sten, nickel, antimony and tin.The work of the District Engineer's Office has been expanded to the extent of hiring crews to prospect certain mining properties known to contain these strategic minerals, and to let contracts for exploration, and to supervise the sampling. The analyses and assays of these sam¬ ples are handled at this Station.Respectfulty submitted,A. C. Rice, Acting Supervising Engineer.
