Collaborative Complex Products and Systems Innovation : A Systematic Literature Review and Bibliometric Analysis

This paper systematically reviews the literature on Complex Product and Systems (CoPS) Innovation to critically evaluate the recent literature. We utilized a systematic literature review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis to analyze contexts and characteristics and identify research themes, trends, patterns, theoretical lenses, and opportunities for future studies. We reached 74 recent articles published in high-quality journals. Our findings showed that the CoPS innovation is well developed and understood in developed nations but still developing in emerging economies. Findings revealed that the literature lacks the understanding of collaborative innovation for CoPS projects where several stakeholders collaborate in an innovation network. Additionally, consisting of interdependent articles and research themes hinders to discuss themes separately. The SLR highlighted the need for exploring drivers and enablers of collaborative innovation, particularly around the capabilities with its social and technical elements. This paper is the only review that conducted an SLR with bibliometric analysis on the subject area. It could be one of its kind because it utilized bibliometric analysis many times and combined two methodologies for engineering management. Finally, it is the only study suggesting the collaborative innovation capability for CoPS Studies
