Combined evaluation of Erasmus+ and predecessor programmes : final report : evaluation of the student loan guarantee facility (Volume 2)
It was agreed with the Commission to include a specific standalone work package on the Student Loan Guarantee Facility (SLGF) as part of the mid-term evaluation of Erasmus+ and ex post evaluation of predecessor programmes. The SLGF is a totally new scheme under Erasmus+ (with a maximum initial budget of about €520m), aimed at fostering higher education student degree mobility among programme countries by easing access to student loans for students enrolling in a master's programme abroad. Concretely, the EU provides a guarantee to participating banks, which should enable comparatively favourable Erasmus+ backed loans to students willing to undertake a full master's programme abroad. The EU guarantee is managed by the European Investment Fund (EIF) on behalf of the European Commission.
