Commitments made at the hearing of Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy

As part of the confirmation hearings process, Executive Vice-President-designate Henna Virkkunen responded in writing to questions posed by Parliament and appeared before the ITRE and IMCO committees on 12 November 2024 to answer further questions from MEPs belonging to those committees, as well as from the Chairs of the AFET, CULT, JURI and LIBE invited committees. The Executive Vice-President-designate made a number of commitments in her written and oral responses. These are highlighted in this document, which has been produced to support Parliament's scrutiny of the Commission over the course of the 2024-2029 term, including through the Committees' annual structured dialogue with the Commission. These commitments refer to her portfolio, as described in the mission letter sent to her by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, including: Tech sovereignty, security and democracy; Digital and frontier technologies. The mission letter also specifies that the Executive Vice-President -designate will work under the guidance of the President, Ursula von der Leyen. The Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology and the Directorate-General for Digital Services will support her in her work on the digital and frontier technologies portfolio.
