Competition and restructuring in the semiconductor industry : implications for technology transfer and its absorption in Penang

After discussing the dynamics of competition within the electronic industry showing that tendencies are towards centralisation of production at major regional markets, the paper looks at the impact of the markets on the following areas: product cycles, automation and planning and organisation.
