Big data analytics powered by artificial intelligence and entrepreneurial resilience : a moderated mediation model of technological turbulence and business innovation model

This study investigates the direct and indirect relationship of big data analytics powered by artificial intelligence (BDA-AI) adoption on entrepreneurial resilience, with business model innovation serving as a mediator and technological turbulence as a moderator. Drawing on an integrated theoretical framework that combines Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT) and the Resource-Based View (RBV), this research explains how firms leverage BDA-AI as both a strategic resource (RBV) and a capability-enhancing mechanism (DCT) to sense, seize, and transform in response to environmental challenges. Using survey data from 329 founders of innovation-driven ventures in Vietnam, we employed Hayes' PROCESS macro to test a moderated mediation model. The results reveal that BDA-AI adoption is positively related to business model innovation (β = 0.872, p<0.001) and entrepreneurial resilience (β = 0.310, p<0.001). Business model innovation mediates the relationship between BDA-AI and resilience (indirect relation β = 0.226, 95% CI [0.155, 0.302]), while technological turbulence weakens both the direct relationship of BDA-AI on innovation (β = − 0.150, p<0.001) and the indirect relation on resilience (moderated mediation index β = − 0.067, 95% CI [-0.110, − 0.030]). By integrating DCT and RBV, this study extends theoretical understanding of how digital technologies contribute to innovation and adaptability in entrepreneurial contexts. Practically, it offers actionable guidance for entrepreneurs to harness BDA-AI strategically, while acknowledging the constraints imposed by technological turbulence in volatile environments.
