Determinants of Outward Foreign Direct Investment fromBRIC countries - An explorative Study

Outward FDI of firms from Brazil, Russia, India, and China has increasedsignificantly in the last years. Despite this trend comprehensive research on thespecific motives and antecedents of outward FDI from BRIC countries is stillunderrepresented. Case studies of eight companies were conducted based on anexplorative approach. A cross-case analysis reveals that market-seeking motives aregenerally the most relevant. Additionally, most companies seek to obtain access totechnological resources and management know-how. While the internationalizationof Brazilian and Indian companies is primarily driven by economic motives, manyChinese and Russian firms also receive political support from their governments toinvest abroad....
