DG Trade statistical guide : August 2025
This guide contains selected tables and graphs outlining the current state of and recent developments in the European Union's trade with the rest of the world. Global trade experienced a significant recovery in 2024, also boosted by a surge in exports to the US towards the end of the year. This rise was driven by economic agents anticipating the protectionist policies of the new US administration, which took office in January 2025. Looking ahead, the coming years are likely to see substantial impacts on global trade growth. Escalating tariffs and unprecedented levels of trade policy uncertainty are expected to reshape global trade. Higher US tariffs will accelerate trade diversion, with countries shifting their trade away from the US. This will likely reduce long-term trade efficiency and contribute to greater trade fragmentation worldwide. This booklet presents statistics on trade in goods, trade in services and foreign direct investment. Data come from Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, and international organisations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
