Dynamic interplay of resilience, job complexity and empowerment : insights from the Indian organized sectors

The study explored the influence of workplace resilience and job complexity on employee empowerment within the Indian organized sector. The study focused on examining how these constructs dynamically interact over time to improve employee empowerment in challenging and diverse work environments.The study employed a longitudinal quantitative approach through a stratified random sampling method to recruit 476 participants representing diverse organizational roles across the Indian organized sectors. Data were collected at three-time points spanning over 18 months to enable in-depth examination of temporal changes among the study variables minimizing common method bias. SPSS 30 and AMOS 29 software were used for data analysis to uncover the effects of workplace resilience and job complexity on employees' psychological empowerment.The study found that workplace resilience and job complexity significantly enhanced psychological empowerment over time. Longitudinal analysis revealed strong, consistent effects across all waves, with high-resilience employees in complex roles experiencing the most significant empowerment gains within the Indian organized sector context.The study redefines and expands the scope of the Conservation of Resources theory, the Job Demands-Resources model and Self-Determination Theory, offering fresh insights into the evolving relationships between employee resilience, job complexity and employee empowerment over. The findings suggest policymakers to build supportive environments to enhance resilience and manage job complexity to improve employee wellbeing.
