EIC novel routes to green hydrogen portfolio : activity report : overview of activities carried out in the 2nd year of the portfolio and overview of activities planned for the 3rd year

This report covers the portfolio activities of the EIC Pathfinder portfolio "Novel Routes to Green Hydrogen" carried out in the period from November 2023 until the end of 2024. A portfolio activity is any action that involves two or more of the projects in the portfolio. The portfolio consists of 9 projects funded through the EIC Pathfinder Challenge call "Novel Routes to Green Hydrogen Production" launched in 2021. They aim at developing novel processes and technologies to produce green hydrogen, at different scales and capturing cross sectorial coupling and system integration opportunities, entirely based on (i) renewable sources, and (ii) non-toxic, non-critical raw materials. The projects focus on the potentials of new biological, chemical and physical routes for green hydrogen production which could also facilitate the implementation of the circular economy principles, possibly including the co-production of decarbonised chemicals. The specific target is to support the development of innovative technologies and platforms for green hydrogen production, including both centralised and/or on-demand generation (i.e. at the premises of the end users and for onsite consumption). Reaching these objectives implies multidisciplinary competencies and cross sectorial approaches. They extend for a period of up to 60 months until September 2027. The total funding from the EIC to these projects sums almost €29 million.
