EMGT 364 the change leader, 2001-03-03

During Peter Drucker’s lecture regarding the change leader he begins by discussing the students' final papers and offering them his comments and advice. He then shares a brief history of the consulting profession, which began to achieve success following World War II. Drucker then discusses issues facing General Motors regarding online selling and buying and the possible implications this might have for them. He goes on to state that the company research lab, the great invention of the 19th century, is out of date and to explain why. Also in this lecture he discusses the upcoming release of his work, “The Essential Drucker.” Following this he answers previously prepared questions from his students, starting with the question: “What approach do you suggest one uses to introduce change in leadership practices in the small company?” During Drucker’s response to this question he dispels the myth that innovation often is derived from small companies and insists instead that innovation most commonly comes from large pre-established companies, such as Johnson and Johnson.
