Enlargement and integration training course Workshop "MONITOR AIR HEALTH" : monitoring and evaluating the health risks from air pollution in buildings including emissions from building materials and consumer products, Ispra 22-24 September 2014

The JRC's Enlargement and Integration MONITOR-AIR-HEALTH Training Course was co-organised by JRC/IHCP.I.1 and WHO-Europe and designed as a capacity building activity for monitoring and evaluating the health risks from air pollution in buildings including emissions from building materials and consumer products. The course was intended as education and training activity in support of the Regional Priority Goal 3 of the WHO/EU Ministerial Declaration 2010 on Environment and Health, that aims to prevent disease through improved outdoor and indoor air quality, and in line with the requirements of construction and consumer products related EU policies (i.e. the Construction Products Regulation and the General Products Safety Directive), in terms of chemical emissions. The Training Course was aimed as a capacity building activity targeting the countries involved in the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) and other EU Accession and Candidate countries and provided hands on training on: a) State-of-the-art techniques, standards and protocols to measure and monitor a wide array of health relevant air pollutants and tools for evaluating the associated health effects in buildings as well as quality control/assurance to enhance data comparability across regions/ countries b) Methodologies to test emissions from construction materials and consumer products and evaluate the associated health risks.
