Forecasting Trajectories of Technologies For Ecological Transition and Sustainable Development

Fossil fuels support a lot of economies worldwide but also generate a lot of quantities of carbon dioxide when burned. These carbon emissions trap heat in the atmosphere and lead to climate change and consequential environmental degradation and health issues. One of the fundamental questions is to detect and analyze new trajectories of technologies that can reduce environmental pollution and support a sustainable development. The main purpose of this study is to clarify this problem with a technology analysis based on data of publication and patents. Results reveal that technologies having a promising development to sustain ecological transition and sustainability in socioeconomic systems are: offshore wind technology, green hydrogen, carbon capture storage and utilization technology, cellular agriculture and blockchain technology having perspective of energy saving and a positive sustainable impact. These results can guide policymaker and funding agencies towards investment in technologies that may positively impact energy transition towards a sustainable socioeconomic future for human society
