Going my way : the memoirs of Dwight Andrus Jr
Dwight Andrus Jr. ; [edited by] Lana Henry
"This work is a collection of autobiographical stories by a lifelong resident of Lafayette, who has been a significant force for sixty-five years in the city's business, civic, and social life. His story includes much of Lafayette's history, beginning with his earliest memories from the 1930s. Like his father, Dwight has sometimes been called "the man that built Lafayette," for his role in developing residential subdivisions, shopping centers, office buildings, apartment complexes, and the Acadiana Mall. The story of this last crowning achievement as a developer is full of intrigue, politics, backstabbing, and twists and turns. In addition to his professional life, Dwight Andrus has served the community on the UL Foundation and building committee for the Hilliard Art Museum, the Lafayette General Hospital Citizens Board, the First National Bank, and the Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association. Dwight has been an avid hunter and fisherman since childhood, and this memoir includes several stories about the trials, triumphs, and even life-threatening experiences he had while enjoying these quintessential Sportsman Paradise pastimes. There is also a very surprising and quite out of the ordinary part of Dwight's life, little-known to those who weren't around in his youth: Dwight was a tap-dancing prodigy, who, at 13, was offered a chance on Broadway by one of the best choreographers in the business. Also included is the lifelong love story of Dwight and his wife of 57 years, their joys and frustrations raising three rambunctious, adventurous boys, and much more. To say that Dwight has lived a rich life is an understatement. His love for this city, its people, and culture shine throughout, and his story will be of great interest to readers in Lafayette and throughout Acadiana"--
