Has Uber's Consolidation Reduced Car Accidents on Weekend Nights?

This work aims to investigate the impact of Uber’s consolidation in reducing car accidents on trips made on days and times where there might be larger flows of people under the influence of alcohol or any other substances that negatively affect their cognitive abilities after attending parties or social events of any kind. These events are generally concentrated on weekends, essentially from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. (i.e., Friday and Saturday nights, and Saturday and Sunday dawns). Applying the Differences in Differences method to analyze the “intervention”, we find evidence to support the hypothesis that Uber’s consolidation in the city of Belo Horizonte reduced the average number of car accidents per road, in special for more dangerous ones
