Information Needs of the IndependentTraveller on Public Transport

Transport Direct is a long term, UK wide initiative aimed at achieving a significant increase inthe use of public transport and providing a better quality travel experience. The initiative isconcentrating on the provision of improved and integrated travel information. A major part ofthe initiative is the provision of a journey planning service, encompassing route, mode andprice comparison and covering all modes of UK transport. Within the next five yearsTransport Direct UK will concentrate on the development of this service and the improvementof the core systems required to meet the project goals (real-time information systems, dataexchange agreements etc.)In 2001 the Welsh Assembly Government set-up, and continues to coordinate, an expertSteering Committee for Transport Direct Wales to translate and progress the aims andobjectives of the UK project within Wales, ensuring the specific needs of traveller in Wales areaddressed.[...]
