International Migration : The Case of Ethiopian Female Migrants in Austria

This article assesses the migration, adaptation and the integration process of the Ethiopian female migrants in Austria. The research was conducted in Vienna for ten months in 2003, by employing the two most important anthropological tools of data collection: observation and interview. It is found out that the most pressing problem for most of Ethiopian women migrants is getting legal residence. The long period of time migrants are forced to wait to get legal residence makes them always live in a constant fear of deportation. Moreover, this research has revealed that for them getting the legal residence is the key for every thing. These include: employment, good income, social interaction, proper health insurance, and in the long run for their smooth integration
