In February 2025, the European Commission published a communication, under the title 'The road to the next MFF', in which it announced plans for 'a simpler, more focused and more impactful budget' - and through which it launched preparations for the EU's next seven-year budget, or multiannual financial framework. As is customary, the budget will be proposed by the Commission and agreed on by the EU member states, the European Parliament and the Council. This issue of the ECA Journal is a contribution to the discussion on the post-2027 long-term budget. It contains a series of articles alternating analysis with the perspectives of prominent researchers, EU supreme audit institutions, new Members of the ECA, and ECA staff.
