The study investigates whether the modification of the occupational structure of rural areas have the potential to achieve more than a marginal alteration in the 'normal' relationship between urbanization and the shift in the economy's centre of gravity away from agriculture and whether rural manufacturing and other sources of off-farm income can be transformed from marginal sources of income supplementation for poor families into growth generating activities
