Mary O'Hara-Devereaux interview, 2005

Nancy O'Hara-Devereaux discusses her book, "Navigating the Badlands: Thriving in the Decade of Radical Transformation." The book is about the current global economy and where it is going and the use of past and current business techniques. She states that the transformation that is happening today hasn't happened for one thousand years. She defines "badlands" as transitional periods between eras. For seven years, O'Hara-Devereaux researched and mapped ten big transitional periods (cycles of innovation) going back to the Bronze Age. She concludes that change happens from the fringe (outsiders) of established business practices. She refers to today's innovation as "garage rules." She points out how companies like Apple and Microsoft started in garages, and wound up being industry standard corporations.
