Mauritanian Geological Resources : A Lever for Sustainable Regional Development via Geotourism
Mauritania contains geodiversity that helps to understand its formation and geodynamic evolution by studying and assessing selected geosites. The aim of this paper is to identify geosites with scientific value and their potential use in promoting geotourism. Eight geosites were selected in order to assess their potential touristic value. The results were obtained using the methodology of Brilha (2016), which show clearly that “the Guelb ErRichat” is the most important geosite with a value of 360. This work could change the classical background about tourism in Mauritania by introducing geotourism in addition to cultural tourism. This offers more benefits and supports sustainable tourism development
