Nanoparticle addition into molten steel (NAMOS) : final report

The aim of NAMOS is to develop a novel steel grade with enhanced mechanical properties by microstructure control through the safe addition of nanoparticles into molten steel, as well as scale up to industry. The strategy is based on grain refinement for increasing strength and toughness. As the project is targeted to automotive cold-forged components, the goal is to replace hardened and tempered steels currently used for such components with a microalloyed steel offering similar/better properties after nanoreinforcement. Thus, the new steel will contribute to reduce energy consumption, processing-times (elimination of intermediate operations), and CO2 emissions (lighter components).
