New Developments in the Austrian Market for Corporate Mergers

Since the mid-eighties a wave of mergers and acquisitions has swept over the Austrian manufacturing sector. West European integration and the opening of the East European countries have strengthened this tendency. This wave has given rise to the emergence of a specialized sector of professional M&A specialists. A number of these have spun off from Austrian banks. The merger wave and European developments will require the Austrian government to increase its regulatory activity in this field, in order to safeguard competition.
