Nonfarm activity and rural household income : Evidence from Philippine microdata

Using Philippine microdata, the author explores the effects of non-farm income on income distribution. He demonstrates the widely different effects of specific types of off-farm income and non-farm income (including remittance income) on income distribution and discusses the effect of non-farm and off-farm income on income inequality and employment opportunities in a relatively remote and resource - poor setting.
