On the electronic structure of the xenon fluorides

The multiple scattered wave self-consistent field Xα (MSW-SCF-Xα) method was used to calculate ionization potentials and charge distributions for the series XeF2, XeF4 and XeF6 as well as XeCl2. The role of the 5d orbitals on xenon was considered and its increasing significance for XeF4 and XeF6 was examined.
