Organized Crime in Fragile States : Trends from Top Ranked States
Global peace, security and development is often gets influenced by fragile states and vice versa , and the degree of fragility is subjects to the transnational organized crime. Scholarly works in organized crime is not a new phenomenon, however the trends of organized crime from top ranked fragile states is still overlooked, these trends can be used to identify the common elements in organized crime thus enabling appropriate policy framework to address and fight organized crime. The objective of this cross sectional study is to find out the trends of transnational organized crime from top ranked fragile states. Secondary sources of data have been collected from reports using Fragile State Index -2021 and Global Organized Crime Index-2021. Top three countries with higher score were taken as sample to find out the trends. Qualitative method was applied for data collection and then content analysis was used to identify the common areas of criminal market and criminal actors of organized crime, then the result were illustrated using Venn diagram. Analysis demonstrate that Arms Trafficking, Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling remain on top pertaining to common areas of criminal markets, where in terms of criminal actors; State Embedded Actors, Criminal Network, Foreign Actors plays major role
