Performance Optimization of Axial Magnetized Magnetostrictive Patch Transducer for Transduction of L(0,2) Ultrasonic Guided Wave in Pipe Inspection
Magnetostrictive patch transducers (MPT) are widely used in the pipe non-destructive testing for the flexibility, reputability, and durability. On basis of the theory of demagnetization and magnetostriction, a method of designing and optimizing the axial magnetized MPT for the transduction of L(0,2) ultrasonic guided wave was presented. The influence of magnetostrictive patch aspect ratio on static bias magnetic field and solenoid coil parameters on dynamic altering magnetic field were obtained from the simulation respectively. The experiments with different magnetostrictive patch aspect ratio and solenoid coil parameters were carried out, which were explained by the factors of demagnetization, axial magnetostrictive force and coil inductance. The optimized MPT was determined, where the performance is improved by 2.79 times compared with that without magnetostrictive patch
