Productivity optimization through the implementation of schedule and cost management based on the PMBOK Guide - case study shipyard - chimbote 2024

In an industry as competitive as ship repair, it is essential to outperform other shipyards. For a shipyard to be competitive and profitable, its management must continuously monitor and improve productivity, meet deadlines, and reduce costs. However, traditional project planning methods can cause productivity problems. The study evaluated the impact of the adaptive implementation of Time Management and Cost Management processes on productivity at a shipyard located in the city of Chimbote, Peru, focusing on meeting deadlines, budget accuracy, and reducing rework. An applied methodology, quantitative approach, deductive method, and pre-experimental design were used. The sample in this research consisted of 52 production area employees directly involved in fishing vessel activities before and after implementation under the Process Group: A Practical Guide from the Project Management Institute (PMI). The results showed an increase in effectiveness from 55.0% to 93.02%, with a significant increase of 38.02% in the ratio between planned time and actual time TP/TR, and in efficiency from 67.38% to 95.79%, with a 28.41% improvement in the ratio between estimated cost and actual cost CE/CR. Therefore, these pre- and post-test findings show a 52.05% improvement in optimal productivity. In conclusion, the implementation of the applied guide based on schedule and cost management significantly improved the shipyard's productivity by reducing delays and minimizing cost overruns, demonstrating its applicability in a poorly documented Latin American context.
