Reducing the Risks to Health: The role of social protectionReport of the Social Protection Task Group for the Strategic Review of Health Inequalities in England Post 2010

At the end of 2008, the Government set in motion a Strategic Review of Health Inequalities in England chaired by Sir Michael Marmot. It is to report in December 2009. As part of its work, it set up various Task Groups to collect evidence and suggest policy options. The Task Group on Social Protection produced this report which will be part of the evidence the Review will consider. As a way of reaching a wider audience, it was decided to make the report available as a CASEpaper. The Chair was Howard Glennerster, Professor Emeritus at the London School of Economics and a member of CASE. Other members of the Task Group were Jonathan Bradshaw, Professor of Social Policy at the University of York and Associate Director, Social Policy Research Unit, Ruth Lister CBE, Professor of Social Policy at Loughborough University and Professor Olle Lundberg, Director of the Centre for Health Equity Studies at Stockholm University.
