Reference architecture for European border surveillance
The European Border Surveillance Reference Architecture (EBS-RA) provides the EU Border Surveillance community with a comprehensive blueprint to guide future decisions in creating a harmonised, fully synchronised, reliable, state-ofthe- art, effective and efficient European border surveillance system. This report outlines the strategic approach and offers a standardised technical framework necessary to develop a state-of-the-art, fully synchronised and efficient border surveillance system, harmonising efforts across Member States while ensuring compliance with EU regulations and respect for fundamental rights. This reference architecture encompasses a broad range of components, including system elements, data protocols, command/control structures, communication infrastructure and key considerations for cybersecurity, privacy, scalability and interoperability. It also addresses the redundancy and resilience necessary to maintain operations under varied and challenging conditions and emphasises the importance of minimising environmental impact.
