Research and innovation perspective of the mid-and long-term potential for advanced biofuels in Europe : D1.4 Forecast of feedstock availability generated from residues/waste
This report presents the analysis of the biomass potential in the EU-28 and Switzerland. The report is based on the results from the BioBoost project. The project addressed the complete value chain from feedstock potential, the investigation of pyrolysis and hydrothermal carbonisation conversion technologies, the optimisation of transport and logistics to the exploitation of the energy carrier and its by-products. The techno/economic and environmental assessment includes the complete supply chain. The statistical data for straw calculation was obtained from EUROSTAT (statistical office of the European Union). EUROSTAT has developed statistical databases on different kinds of agricultural and forestry production. The data is collected for different spatial scales and periods. The data in BioBoost model covered 2005-2011, for this study the model was up-dated with 2012-2015 data. In 2013 there was a change in the NUTS classification (Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics). The current NUTS 2013 classification is valid from 1 January 2015 and lists 98 regions at NUTS 1, 276 regions at NUTS 2 and 1342 regions at NUTS 3 level. The BioBoost model based on the NUTS 20010 was adopted to new NUTS borders (2015). There was also an update on Corina Land Cover map for 2012, in BioBoost model a map from 2006 was used
