Research on the Mechanism of Substrate Composition on Pollutants Removal in Vertical Flow Constructed Wetland

Vertical Flow Constructed Wetlands, which integrates natural ecological components such as soil, filler, plants, and microorganisms in a unit, is an effective rural domestic sewage treatment technology. Based on the principle of waste recycling, garbage ceramsite and soil were used as the substrate to build vertical flow constructed wetlands in this work. It was found that the pollutants were mainly removed by the substrate and the plants in the wetland had a higher removal effect on nitrogen and phosphorus than organic matter by studying the influence of different substrate composition. The analysis of microbial communities in several devices showed that Deinococcus-Thermus, Proteobacteria and Bacteroidete played essential roles in the removal of pollutants and Deinococcus-Thermus (Deinococcus) had the best pollutant removal ability among them
