School safety and security: concerns and forms of deviant behaviours and rejoinder to educational goals

Globally educational institutions have certain problems, which make its administration complex. Among such problems is deviant behaviour. While deviant behaviours among adolescents appear to be quite common, assessment of these behaviours and their relationship to school safety, school security and effective education management is rare. Deviant behaviour in the form of rule violation, examination malpractice, truancy and assault are serious problems in the Nigerian education system. Questionnaires are the main source through which data was gathered. Data for this study were analysed quantitatively. Overall, data from this study suggests that some forms of deviant behaviour are very common. It is therefore important that an inner conviction on the part of the individual to obey the rules of the school and society be nurtured before, during and after enrolment in educational institutions. This study will benefit educational managers, planners and decision makers in school business administration in developing economies.
