Statistical mechanics of two-dimensional coulomb systems
The dynamic properties of the classical two-dimensional plasma are studied using the method of molecular dynamics. The properties are found to be similar to those of its 3-dimensional counterpart. A negative plasmon dispersion is observed. The long time behaviour of the velocity autocorrelation function is studied in detail. Its asymptotic decay can be described accurately by a function of the form z(t)= t−1 (a+b cos (ωpt+α)) in qualitative agreement with the predictions of linearized hydrodynamics.
