Support to the design of policy options for financial incentives for carbon farming : input paper to workshop
Carbon farming holds a central position in the European Union's drive towards climate neutrality by 2050, given the significant mitigation potential in agriculture and land use. Recognising the need for credible, high-quality market-based approaches, the EU has introduced the new Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation, which establishes the first EU-wide voluntary framework for certifying carbon removals, carbon farming, and carbon storage in products. This Input Paper explores how both public and private financing mechanisms can inspire the EC to develop an effective financial mechanism that accelerates a robust carbon farming market. It is based on desk research of case studies as well as stakeholder interviews.
